Apartment complex

" "

I drew a apartment complex! I drew apartments around and in the middle a planter with benches around it. I feel like a apartment complex can bring people and our community together. I live in apartments and let me tell you, I know everyone and everyone know me! I love the feeling of entertaining bc my apartments and knowing that everyone that lives next to you says hi, good morning or even how’s your day. So I think having more apartments and apartment complex can be useful if your trying to get people together. In the middle I added a planter with benches around. I love plants and having plants, flowers, and trees can bring happiness to your day. I drew benches for people can sit and rest when they had a busy day and what to see nature.

Costa Mesa Virtual

" "

Building upon the basic Minecraft world community, I sought to include a variety of housing units, from an apartment community, to artist-shared living spaces and single-family homes. I hoped to represent a miniature "pocket community," consisting of diverse housing options and a central community area. By placing housing as such, I aimed to foster a tight-knit community, with accessible bike lanes and walking paths to encourage a healthier, happier population. In between housing units, I included small green spaces and community gardens to add spots of color and culture to the urban landscape. Due to limited space for parks and open areas, I designed the rooftop of the apartment community to include patio areas and serve as a greenhouse in order to maintain biodiversity within the city despite increased buildings. These "rooftop gardens" are meant to provide the community with a space to relax and enjoy the company of their neighbors, as well as for hosting community events. Overall, my vision for Costa Mesa is to design unique "pocket communities" to foster cultural diversity, interpersonal relationships, and an overall healthier and more sustainable lifestyle.

Close Up

" "

For my dream neighborhood, I combined the artist's safe space and my ideal community. To create the neighborhood, I used a game on Roblox. The houses in the neighborhood are close together so people can communicate with each other and create a stronger community. I put an artist-safe space close to the houses so that it is within walking distance. To allow easy access for people to make art and collaborate. I also made sure to include a bike lane; so it is easier to ride bikes around the neighborhood. I included a park close to the small neighborhood, so people can go on walks and take their pets on walks. Two restaurants, or shops, are close to the homes as well, so people can walk rather than using their cars to get food or groceries. A center area is a place for people in the neighborhood to talk with each other and maybe sit on the benches. Lastly, there is a community garden, so people can collaborate to add healthier vegetables and fruits to their diet. In my dream neighborhood, the houses would be colorful to make the neighborhood seem more vibrant. I made the homes small, so homes are more affordable. I included a little bit of greenery here and there, so it would look nice. Note: I couldn’t build any multifloor houses because that required a game pass. Also, there would be solar panels, but I couldn’t figure out how to include them here.

Apartment Community

ADU/Granny flat

" "

This is a typical apartment complex that can house 500 people. 10 percent of the total units would be for low-income housing. In this complex we have 2 Community Gardens. The building is built according to Green standards and would be a welcome addition to the Costa Mesa landscapes.

The Second image is an example of an ADU/granny flat. These units would be approximately 500 square feet and would house 1 to 2 people. They are also built to Green standards. These units provide a comfortable and elegant solution to housing our elderly population.

The Layout of My Virtual Town

" "

My town was inspired by the model I made for phase one. I divided the town up into 4 sections. The upper right section is where most of the commercial buildings would be as well as a park with some community amenities. The upper left corner of the town is where most of the families reside, this section also has a " Mega-School" where pre-school through 12th grade would go. The lower right corner is where the town's industrial zone is, this is where the town's power comes from but also where the military keeps an eye on the town. The lower left corner is where the cheaper homes are because in this section is where the main airport is.

Rooftop Garden and Green Wall

" "

I chose to create a multi-family structure that is functional and entertaining. I created an outdoor space with seating and a pool, greenspace, a fire pit and additional seating. I also created a garden wall and a rooftop garden where people could grow their own food and it would reduce the buildings carbon footprint. Ideally there would be bike and walking paths around the area that would take you to different amenities like restaurants, schools, dry cleaners, and grocery stores, etc.

Bird's Eye View

" "

For my 3D model I modeled it using the Sims 4. I modeled it with mixed-use housing. I included a mural because I wanted there to be color and livelihood. Which also is why I included lots of bike lanes and green space. I also included seating in the walking area. On the top of the building I included a green roof with seating and areas for artists. There are balconies on the apartments for added room in them (in reality they would be bigger than in the model). I also added a lane of trees to separate pedestrians from the street. Overall, I really enjoyed building this 3D model and I tried my best to portray my view. Thank you!
